I'd like to thank God for his divine intervention by keeping me alive
while riding without a helmet. Clearly this is a continuing miracle.

Does this mean you always wear a helmet now? :-)

In the many years of riding, I have known several friends falling off their
bikes or flying in the air more than a few times at high speed. Lucky them
they were not injured. Helmets are a must, especially in Vancouver.

No, never. I think you should be free to wear one but no one should be
forced by law to wear one. I break the law everyday as a result.

Nonsense. You are suggesting that your friends are at more risk than
most people? Are they retarded?
The myth of helmet use has become a cancer to the point people convince
themselves (and sometimes even lie) "Wow I know so many people that
would have been hurt or killed if they didn't wear a helmet).
Make no mistake the chances of injury are infinitesimal.
Yes I have wiped out several times in my life and even scraped my head
a couple of times. BUT never close to serious injury like many poeple
suggest they have. Load of crap.

Well, it's your life. You do whatever you want. You have been lucky
that you have not banged your head against a hard surface.

I have not seen anyone incapacitated after a bike accident but I personally
know a guy on a moped riding very slowly and got t-boned by a car at an
intersection. Lucky him he wore a helmet -- he was found unconscious
with a heavy concussion, and fractured ribs and two broken legs. This
could easily have happened on a bike. You have no control of motorists.
They can hit you from behind or side. The same things goes with driving.
You may be careful on the road but there are greenhorns and drunks on the
road.

I'm sorry to Charles, but no it has not been a matter of luck. It is
the odds. The chances of a head injury while cycling are almost ZERO.
But I do agree with you that it is my life and therefore I should have
the choice. Something many refuse to admit in the name of money (they
claim it costs them tax dollars).

I feel more aware on a bike than in a car. I also have more control
over whether I get hit or not as I am more mobile than in a car.
