Mountain Bike to Road Bike

This might seem like heresy, but I have given up mountain biking for road
riding. I have a very nice road bike (OLMO Dynamic Plus), and I do not want
to use it over the winter months, which are very wet here in Vancouver.
Therefore, I propose to convert my Specialized Stumpjumper M2 into a winter
road bike. I have the tires, handle bars and seat sorted out, but I need to
know how to replace the Judy Race front fork with a rigid carbon fiber front
fork. I need the existing XTR caliper brakes to mount on the new forks and,
ideally, I need to find a relatively inexpensive replacement fork. If
anyone knows how to do this, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

Have you considered just changing the tires. I have a Trek 4100 mtb that
has a front skinny tire(the back would not give me enough traction I figure
but I might try it.. psi 100 I got them from MEC. It would give you what
you need without the modification problem. Panaracer Pasela 26 x 1.25

Turn your mountain bike into a commuter / touring bike with these versatile
touring tires from Panaracer®. Kevlar® belt provides excellent flat
protection, making this smooth-patterned tire suitable for commuting and
long distance touring. The V-shaped tread pattern channels water and
enhances wet-weather performance.

a.. Wire bead
b.. 26 x 1.25in. size.
I did not realize it till now but it says it is for converting your mtb to a
road bike so there you go everybody. Save time and money. I was looking
for fenders for my brand new race bike but have decided to keep it dry till
summer for riding.
Any ideas on a good lock for a $1000+ bike.

thanks

Thanks. Yes, I have changed to tires to 26x1.25 panaracers, but I would
like to get rid of the bulk of the suspension fork, which I do not require
for road riding.

Last time I was in cheapskates they had dozens upon dozens of
non-suspension MTB forks. All brand new. Any bike shop should have some
lying around that they'd be happy to get rid of for cheap.

Heck, I'VE got some lying around that I'd be happy to get rid of for cheap,
I'll even do the installation for ya!

BTW: don't forget fenders. I personally recommend Planet Bike "Freddy
Fenders" for ATB. Available at a LBS near you.

BTW II: have you got a decent set of lights???

Thanks for the tip on forks; however, I have been advised that I need a
"suspension corrcted" fork, when replacing a suspension fork. Does anyone
know anything about that?
