Has anybody here continued north from the KVR trail to
Spence's Bridge? Seems most people like to veer east
to the Okanagan. I don't blame 'em, since all the
good stuff like wineries and orchard produce is over
there, while dreary little places like Spence's Bridge
only have liquor stores and gas stations (often in the
same building.)
AFAIK the KVR is only cyclable east from Princeton as some of the
trestles in the Coquihalla Canyon & Coldwater areas were removed.
Probably the only way to get to Spence's Bridge would be via the old
Hwy. 8 from Merritt. I think there was also a railway down the Nicola
Valley, but I don't know if it's still tracked.
Post by Tom KeatsI've never done the Kettle Valley Railway trail, myself.
I'm only asking because some day I'd like to do a multi-day
tour from Vancouver to my brother's place up by Walhachin/
Savona/Cache Creek. The KVR would bypass the Fraser Canyon
Highway's scary tunnels, and I wouldn't be in any terrible
hurry anyways. Or I guess I could do the Coq up to Kamloops
(if there are any convenient places to overnight) and then
head west on 97A.
I wish there was a way to do the Fraser Canyon without spending much
time on the Highway. It's a fascinating place & can't be appreciated
well from the Hwy.
To get to Savona you could go up past Whistler, take the Duffey Lake Rd.
(paved) to Lillooet then past Pavilion & Marble Canyon to Hwy 97 near
Cache Creek. Not a very busy route when I've been on it & also very
scenic.
