Hi,
Anyone with a trek 1500 or other race bike who can tell me what kind of
fender you need. I tried planet bike and there was nothing to attach it to.

Thanks
I realize alot of you will not take your bike on wet roads or heaven forbid
rainy weather. I just do not want to go 4-6 months without riding. We do
live in Vancouver. duh

A quick look at at this photo of a Trek 1500 confirms that there is no
front dropout eyelet to attach a fender, but the rear is not clearly visible
enough:

Even if you use hose clamps or the like to improvise the eyelets,
full-coverage fenders will still likely not fit this bike because of brake
clearance. you'll have to settle for the cheapo crap that clips onto
the seat tube and zip-ties onto the downtube. As you might expect, this
stuff only provides a little more protection from road grime than
nothing at all.

Yes, I am one whose summer bike stays locked away when it is wet out;
which is pretty much all winter. But that does not mean I quit riding
in the wet season! My wet weather bike is an early 80's Trek 420 that I
picked it up for under $200 at Cheapskates. Fitting full-coverage
fenders on it was easy because of the plentiful clearance and eyelets.
It's a pleasure to ride even in the rain.

Yeah, I bet your right about the clearance. That is my bike there but it
does not have eyelets for a fender. I do have a mountain bike I can ride
in the wet weather so I guess this will be my summer bike.

The most important question you should be asking yourself is how much do you
like your wheels. Riding during the wet months with all the crap on the
roads will ruin your rims very quickly. Planet Bike Freddy Fenders will
probably fit on your bike but will need some tweaking to clear the brakes.
It can be done.

Check out Mountain Equipment Coop. They have a set of polycarbonate
fenders, that use a rubber strap system to hold the fenders in place. I was
skeptical, but they work very well. I have them on my OLMO dynamic plus
road bike, and fit and perform perfectly.

Look for a pair of SKS "Race Blade XL" fenders.
They're not a full fender, and they're not inexpensive, but they will
mount on bikes with tight clearances and no eyelets.
